The Big 12 is a monster, and each week will feature multiple dog fights, upsets, and season-swinging wins. On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Sooners suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns. This pushed the Sooners record to 15-4 on the year, but just 3-3 during Big 12 play.

On Saturday, the road got no easier. The 11th-ranked Sooners welcomed the 20th-ranked team in the country, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were not phased by a strong home crowd at Lloyd Noble going blow-for-blow with the Crimson and Cream.

Down three points with just 43.2 ticks left in the contest, the Sooners worked for a clean catch-and-shoot look from lead guard Javian McCollum, who watched the potential game-tying shot rim out. However, Otega Oweh’s follow-up was counted off a Red Raider goaltend.

That brought the Sooners within one, and as Joe Toussaint sank a pair of freebies, the Sooners were in a similar spot, down three with just 27.8 seconds left. Again, Oklahoma elected to try for a quick two, which extended the game as Rivaldo Soares once again brought the Crimson and Cream within one.

On the ensuing possession, the Sooners again put Toussaint on the charity stripe, where he split the difference putting OU down just two. However, a botched play from Oklahoma that resulted in a missed off-balance mid-range jumper gave OU their second home loss.

The Red Raiders were able to just outlast the Sooners, as neither side grew a double-digit lead in this contest. Texas Tech saw a career-night from Chance McMillian off the bench as he turned in 27 points, eight rebounds, and went 6-for-8 from three-point land.

Four Sooners found their way to double-figures led by Soares off the bench who produced 19 points, ten rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block in this contest. Oweh earn 14 points, Miles Uzan and Sam Godwin each chipped in 13 points.

As Oklahoma falls 85-84 to Texas Tech, they will look to rebound for this two game skid in Manhattan, Kan. against the Kansas State Wildcats on Tuesday.
