The Oklahoma high school basketball season has finished as the big schools (2A-6A) concluded their State Tournament. One of the Sooners’ two 2024 signees had the opportunity to shine in the Big House on his way to his third straight State Championship.

Dale star and future Sooner Dayton Forsythe was named the 2A boys’ State Tournament MVP. The senior guard scored 36 points in the State Final as he led the Pirates to a three-peat, ending his high school basketball career on a high note. Of his 36 points, Forsythe scored 15 in the final frame.

In winning three State Championship’s in his career, Forsythe also holds the title as Dale’s leading scorer, having scored over 2,200 points in his four years playing. His high school career will be among the most memorable in Oklahoma high school sports, as what he accomplished over his career feels under appreciated.

“Going out on a high note like that is something I’ve dreamed of for my whole life,” Forysthe told Jordan Davis of The Oklahoman after the game.

As the Big House will soon be moved to a new building, Forsythe was able to cherish every moment he had playing in the historic gym.

“This is the best gym in Oklahoma,” Forsythe said. “I know they’re moving on from it, but there’s nothing like playing here. Winning a title for your hometown that you’ve been with your whole life — words don’t describe it.”

Forsythe won’t be going far, though. The 6-foot-2, three-star guard will soon be featured in the Lloyd Noble Center with the Sooners as he joins Porter Moser’s team. While the Sooners feel like a lock for the NCAA Tournament, building off this season will be important for Moser as he builds his program.

The local prospect will be able to help in Moser building a consistent program in Norman, and he’ll be able to continue building on a legendary basketball career in the state of Oklahoma. It’ll be interesting to see what other honors Forsythe receives as his incredible high school basketball career comes to a close.
