Former Oklahoma Guard Commits to Houston Cougars in Transfer Portal

While the Oklahoma Sooners have yet to secure any commits in the transfer portal opening, a former guard has found his new home. Transfer guard Milos Uzan announced his decision to commit to the Houston Cougars — the reigning Big 12 champions — on Sunday. The guard is remaining in the Big 12 as the Sooners move on to the SEC.

Not only is Uzan remaining in the Big 12, but he’s doing so while playing under Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson, a former Oklahoma basketball coach.

Uzan transfers to Houston after two years with Oklahoma

The former four-star guard from Las Vegas, NV, provided his services to the Oklahoma Sooners for two seasons before joining Javian McCollum, Otega Oweh and John Hugley in the transfer portal. He appeared in 64 contests — starting in 24 of his 32 games as a freshman before earning Big 12 All-Freshman honors.

Uzan started each of his 32 contests this past season, averaging 9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 31.7 minutes per game. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard holds  plenty of potential that remains untapped after his two-year stint in Norman. As the No. 66 recruit in the nation in 2022 — and the No. 12 point guard in the nation — Uzan has real pro potential, but it was clear he wasn’t going to reach that level in Norman.

Potential in Houston remains sky-high

Again, Uzan entered college with plenty of potential as a prospect. As the No. 8 point guard in the transfer portal, Uzan will have the opportunity to fill a big hole with the Cougars. With Jamal Shead’s time with Houston running out, Uzan will be able to step into a point guard role with two years of college basketball experience to help lead one of the top programs in the nation.

If Uzan can continue to contribute as a facilitator and on the boards while finding consistency from beyond the arc again, the former Sooner can put himself on the map of pro teams while playing deep into March, just as the Cougars have proven to do in recent years.
