Things were made incredibly simple by Oklahoma Sooners basketball head coach Porter Moser. He’s not leaving the program to take the DePaul head coaching job, and he wasn’t shy to share such information a week ago. There were fringe whispers connecting him to the vacant coaching job, but Moser wasn’t going to let it be more than just whispers.
“[I] haven’t talked to anybody, not even thinking about anything. I’m just absolutely not even engaging in anything like that, 100 percent,” Moser said a week ago. “[I’m] so excited about where we’re at with the team. This is everything we’ve tried to build for, is being in this position.”
As the college football season approaches the NCAA Tournament, which should see the Sooners playing in March Madness, there’s no reason to believe he’d want to leave the program. His Sooners have been ranked a top-ten program once and have been listed in many rankings since then.
As of now, though, the Sooners sit at the outside looking in on the AP Top 25 after taking two tight, tough road losses this past week. Since denying the DePaul coaching rumors, the Sooners have had to take on No. 12 Baylor and No. 6 Kansas in two straight losses.
The Sooners were defeated by 17 points by Baylor before being defeated by ten points by Kansas. Evidently, it’s going to take more time for Oklahoma to continue building their basketball program. Heading into the SEC, the Sooners will soon have a lighter conference schedule as well as another one of Moser’s recruiting classes.
So far, the Sooners have two signees set to join the program — one of those being three-star guard Dayton Forsythe from Dale, OK, and the other being Kual Atal from Fort Worth, TX. It’ll be interesting to see how those two are used within the system as the Sooners have been a unique team on the court this season.
