OU Basketball: Porter Moser Talks Bedlam, Provides Injury Update For Two Rotational Players

Saturday is a big day for Bedlam. The Oklahoma Sooners (18-8, 6-7) travel to Stillwater to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (12-14, 4-9) as they look to even out their record in conference play. The Sooners are catching the Cowboys at the wrong time, as Oklahoma State has won two straight impressive games. First, they defeated a ranked BYU team before taking down Cincinnati in a close game on the road.

For OU, this game is an opportunity to get on the right side of the win column after two straight losses. They were defeated by Baylor first, then Kansas in a tough two-game stretch. On top of that, this is the final meeting between the two programs before the Sooners depart for the SEC. Still, Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser believes this isn’t the final time the two teams will meet.

“I personally don’t think this is the last time we play,” Moser said on Friday.

On top of it being a big matchup for OU as they look to reach 7-7 in Big 12 play, the Sooners are going to enter the game shorthanded once again. John Hughley is out after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

“At first, we were waiting to see if [Hugley] could recover without [surgery],” Moser said. “The decision was made to move forward. It went great. We don’t know the exact timetable. We’re hopeful about that, but there’s clarity. … Opportunity for some other guys to step up. We have some guys that we really want to step up in his absence.”

On top of Hughley’s absence, Rivaldo Soares is questionable to play in the game. Moser has no real answer as to whether he’ll be able to go or not, and that decision won’t be made until much closer to game time.

“It was a bad sprain, like, we all saw it,” Moser said. “So we’re not going to do anything to jeopardize it. It’s hard, because you talk to ‘Valdo, he’s like ‘Uhm, I’m playing.’ He said that at the last game. We miss him. He was playing great on both ends, but we’ll see. He’s day-by-day. We still got today and tomorrow. We’ll see”

The Sooners take on the Cowboys at 3 p.m. CT in Stillwater on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 as the two teams battle for the final time for the near future.
