Before the college softball season could even get fully underway, a former Oklahoma standout pitcher has been sidelined for the season. One of the biggest softball storylines from the past offseason was Jordy Bahl transferring from Oklahoma closer to home, which happened to be Nebraska. Bahl was with the Sooners for two of the program’s three straight National Championship wins. Now the program is searching for its fourth straight national title without Bahl.

In pursuit of a championship with her program close to home, Bahl tore her ACL in her season opener, as she shared on social media on Tuesday.

“In game one of opening weekend in Puerto Vallarta, I experienced an injury to my ACL that is going to cause me to support the Red Team in a different way than anticipated for the 2024 season. With a heart thankful for God’s plan and timing, I will be redshirting this year and looking forward to a season of growth and learning from a different point of view. I’m thankful for the support of my family, friends, coaches and staff. I’m truly blessed to have so many wonderful and loving people in my life,” Bahl explained.

Of course, this news was big for the entire college softball season, but hit closer to home for both Nebraska and Oklahoma fans. Patty Gasso, legendary Oklahoma coach and former coach of Bahl, commented on the matter.

“It’s sad. It’s horrible for anybody, really. Jordy went through injuries as a freshman ,” Gasso said of the injury. “Everyone here wishes her well, wishes her a speedy recovery. She’ll come back, knowing her, better than she ever has.”

Bahl will redshirt and return to Nebraska next season to continue pursuing a National Championship with her new program. The former Sooner will watch her team from the sideline for the season while she begins to rehab and prepare for a new season, and she seems to be in solid spirits considering what happened.
