Are the Oklahoma Sooners SEC-ready? It’s a question that’s been asked since the move was announced in 2021. Now that the transition is official, the question holds much more weight. The guys in Norman need to be sharp in every facet — the on-field product, environment and everything in between.
Owen Field is a tough place to play, especially as they dominated the Big 12 for decades. Is it going to be tough for the most elite programs in college football, though?
The Sooners certainly have the talent to defend their home field as they’ve got an incredible blue-chip ratio. They’ve got a stout environment, too. But where does it rank among the SEC?

On3’s Nick Kosko answers the question.
OU’s football field ranks mid-table compared to the rest of the SEC
Projections around the Sooners leave them mid-table in their first season in the SEC. Plenty of pundits and analysts believe Oklahoma will finish somewhere between seven or nine wins on the season. The same goes for their stadium — Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium ranks No. 9 out of the 16 teams in the SEC.
“The first newcomer to make the list is Oklahoma and the Sooners certainly have a tough place to play. But, it’s not in the top half of the SEC,” Kosko writes. “Oklahoma dominated in the Big 12, right? Well when Tennessee and Alabama, among others, come to visit, the Sooners will be tested.”
The Sooners can certainly jump this list if they can defend their home field with the Alabama Crimson Tide coming to town this fall. They also get to travel to LSU to take on the toughest home field in the conference — Tiger Stadium.
Texas’ Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium ranks No. 10, just behind Oklahoma, in the stadium rankings.
It’ll be interesting to see Oklahoma host some of the toughest teams in the nation during the upcoming season. This certainly isn’t the Big 12 anymore, and the Sooners will be able to prove they’re ready for the tough task next season.
