The college football world has slowed down significantly in the midst of the offseason. Players have left their programs for the summer and recruiting is at a bit of a halt as high school prospects are wrapping up their respective school years.

Soon, recruiting will ramp back up as players attend summer camps and get in front of coaches, and that will be followed by training camp and the arrival of football season.

Until then, the college football world can look ahead to the 2024 college football season — the one that will see the Oklahoma Sooners, along with the Texas Longhorns, play their first season as members of the SEC. With this, there will be plenty of challenge and there has been quite a bit of doubt surrounding the Sooners and how they will fare in the SEC.

Sooners underdogs in at least five games in 2024

Oklahoma was continually atop the Big 12, consistently a preseason pick to make the title game. On a weekly basis, it was abnormal to see them as an underdog in a game. DraftKings has released odds for seven of the Sooners games on the 2024 college football schedule.

Of the seven SEC matchups the sportsbook released odds for, the Sooners are underdogs in five of those games. They’re going to be underdogs in over half of their conference contests.

Now, Oklahoma is a favorite against Tennessee and Auburn both, which makes sense. DraftKings didn’t give odds for the Sooners’ contest against South Carolina, which one would assume they enter as favorites. That leaves them as underdogs against Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama and LSU.

When people analyze Oklahoma’s 2024 college football season and make predictions for their first season, it always comes back to their gauntlet of a schedule. This checks out with the fact that the Sooners are early underdogs in five conference contests.
