The 2024 NFL Draft cycle is at a full close. The three-day event has been far completed. Players have since arrived to their respective markets, while those who didn’t hear their names called had a chance to sign undrafted free agent deals.

All-in-all, the process is well behind us. Those players have taken part in rookie minicamps and OTAs. Now, everyone can look forward to the 2025 NFL Draft process, though the 2024 NFL and college football seasons need to be played before anything substantial can be said.

Still, a few Oklahoma Sooners players could be selected quite early in the 2025 NFL Draft. Of course, one of those is Sooners star linebacker Danny Stutsman. Another surprise Oklahoma star could hear his name called on the first day, though.

Oklahoma transfer wide receiver in Norman to improve

Deion Burks, a transfer wide receiver from Purdue, projects to be a star in Norman. He spent three seasons with the Boilermakers, and he’s going to be an instant impact player for the Sooners, which he joined to become an all-around receiver.

“He wanted to go to a program where it’s like the NFL already,” Burks’ father told OU Daily.

Oklahoma is headed to the SEC as an unproven program within the conference, though they’re a blue blood. This gives Burks and the Sooners a huge opportunity to prove themselves. Burks and Stutsman having success in the SEC with a first-year program will propel them to proving themselves as first-round NFL talents.

“He wanted to get better as a receiver, a complete receiver,” Burks’ dad continued. “Emmett Jones is pretty much one of the highly touted receiver coaches, so that was one of the selling points when he came to Oklahoma.”

Burks could be early-round draft pick

From what Burks showed during the Sooners’ spring game, the connection between he and Jackson Arnold is going to be strong. He’s going to be a standout in a deep wide receivers room, absolutely showing out in the SEC, just as Stutsman will defensively. Because of this, the two will get plenty of love come draft time.

Also, Burks is built to be an all-around wide receiver. He can run routes, has speed, has incredible hands and his body control makes him an elite threat out of the slot. His skill and big-play ability is going to transform the Sooners’ offense. He will also get the chance to show his ability as a wideout, as he wants to round out his game.

With the versatility he will show in the crimson and cream, it wouldn’t come as a shock if Burks is considered in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he’ll certainly go in the first few rounds.
