The Oklahoma Sooners have seen no drop off in recruiting in recent years. They’ve continued to recruit at an elite level, despite posting a 6-7 season two years ago and having Brent Venables take over as head coach after Lincoln Riley left the program high and dry.
That’s the benefit of being a blue blood program, and also having an added recruiting pitch with the team heading to the SEC. With talent littered in the NFL, prospects aspiring to play on Sundays can make that happen by heading to Norman.
On Monday, a four-star prospect added Oklahoma on his list as a rising program. Four-star tight end DaSaahn Brame’s list initially included Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oregon, Alabama, LSU and, of course, the Sooners.
Oklahoma rising on 2025 four-star tight end DaSaahn Brame’s list
Brame recently narrowed his list of programs to three teams, including Oklahoma, Oregon and Tennessee, according to On3.
“When I commit on June 29, it’s not going to be an easy decision. Oklahoma moved up quite a bit and it’s tight up there for me with them, Oregon and Tennessee,” Brame explained.
Brame is the No. 10 tight end in the 2025 recruiting class, as well as the No. 184 player in the nation, according to On3. His industry rankings have him top 100 in the nation. The four-star recruit would be an incredible addition to Venables’ 2025 class, equipping quarterback Jackson Arnold with even more targets.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end is from Derby, KS. On3’s prediction has Brame landing with Oregon, though according to the tight end, it’s going to be a close race that comes down to the wire.
“What stood out was that it’s really a family feel there and the culture is amazing,” Brame said of Oklahoma, via On3. “That and how much of an impact I could come in as a freshman. This was a great visit to Oklahoma and it really helped them with me. They really moved up my list.”
Oklahoma Sooners’ 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 7 in nation
Oklahoma could really benefit from the addition of a four-star talent. According to 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings, the Sooners rank No. 7 in the nation with their current class, but a four-star tight end would give them a healthy bump. They’ve currently got 15 commitments, with nine of those coming from four-star talents.
Brent Venables runs on the field before an NCAA football game between University of Oklahoma (OU) and Iowa State at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.
A strong first season in the SEC would impress recruits, but the opportunity to join a blue blood heading into the toughest league in the nation alone should be enough for high school talents. The Sooners have seen no drop off in recruiting, and having a top-ten class this early is a positive sign for Venables and his staff.
