Elite quarterbacks finding their way through Norman is nothing new. One of the most talented signal-callers across the college football landscape typically wears an Oklahoma Sooners jersey, even more so as recently as the team has had a great stretch of quarterbacks.
That will remain the same as Jackson Arnold, a sophomore, takes over the offense as the Sooners head into the SEC. After Dillon Gabriel — now Oregon’s quarterback — completed two years with the team as Brent Venables took over as the program’s head coach, it was understood Arnold was next up.
Now, with Arnold taking over, he’s already making noise in the college football world. It started at the team’s bowl game, followed by spring training and a strong spring performance.
OU’s Jackson Arnold shines at Manning Passing Academy
The Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA, brings together the best quarterbacks at the college level, allowing them to sharpen their games in the multi-day event, which includes a Friday Night Lights contest.
The star college quarterbacks’ roles were to serve as camp instructors to high school campers, but they also got to get in the fun in a few competitions. With that, some quarterbacks were able to stand out, as On3 ranked those who shined during throughout the night.
Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold (11) takes the field with teammates before a University of Oklahoma (OU) Sooners spring football game at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, April 20, 2024.
“Arnold’s play as a freshman proved his toughness outside the pocket, and the former 5-star had good zip on his passes at Friday Night Lights and had some nice deep ball throws. Arnold told On3 he feels much more confident entering Year 2 of college ball in Norman, and his arm talent showed in South Louisiana on Friday night,” On3 wrote.
Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold primed for breakout season in Norman
On3 alluded to Arnold’s ability to throw the deep ball, which completely checks out. The Sooners hired Seth Littrell as the team’s new offensive coordinator after Jeff Lebby and the program parted ways (though he landed on his feet as Mississippi State’s head coach).
Now, Littrell is expected to establish an air raid offense around Arnold, who certainly has the arm talent to do so. Not only does his archetype as a player support the scheme, but the Sooners have an elite arsenal of talent at the wide receiver position.
