The Oklahoma Sooners could get some key production from newcomers during the 2024 college football season.

Oklahoma will be under the spotlight during their upcoming season. A transition from the Big 12 to the SEC leaves them as one of the most intriguing teams to follow across the sport. Whether they’re built for the juggernaut of a conference or still have a ways to go before establishing themselves in the new era will pique the interest of fans of the sport.

In their first season, young talents will have the chance to emerge as stars in Norman. The most notable young athlete who will get shine is sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold who will be leading a potentially high-powered offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the team will see production from freshman defensive tackle David Stone.

Who is a “sleeper” within the Sooners’ roster heading into the 2024 season, though? ESPN’s Dave Wilson pointed out a young player with high potential as a potential instant contributor in a crimson and cream jersey.

ESPN lists Oklahoma Sooners’ “sleeper” pick for 2024 season

Wilson, along with a few other ESPN writers, listed one “sleeper” pick for each of college football’s top 25 programs. For the Sooners, Wilson praised freshman defensive lineman Danny Okoye.

Freshman defensive lineman Danny Okoye arrived in Norman in January and got to work, putting on more than 20 pounds,” Wilson wrote. “The 6-3, 255-pound edge rusher has drawn praise from coach Brent Venables this spring for his work ethic and athleticism — he reportedly runs a 4.56 40-yard dash — and as the Sooners try to find a rotation up front, Okoye could claim his share of playing time early on.”

Winning in the trenches will be defining for Oklahoma during their inaugural SEC campaign. They’re loaded with talent on the defensive line, as Okoye adds depth and star power in that department. He should be able to establish himself in the rotation early in his career in Norman.
