The Red River Rivalry is among the most popular matchups in all of college athletics. Any time the Oklahoma Sooners cross the state border to take on the Texas Longhorns in Dallas, TX, a classic college football contest is bound to happen. Just a season ago, now-Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel led Oklahoma to a picture-perfect ending over the Longhorns.
The matchup runs so deep that both Oklahoma and Texas are exiting the Big 12 at the same time as they both set sail for the SEC — the toughest college football conference the sport has to offer.
With a deeply rooted rivalry, players for each respective program aren’t fond of each other. They’re going to ride for their program 100 percent, even if that means taking jabs at Texas players on social media. That’s exactly what Sooners defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. did on Tuesday.
One of the stories dominating the college football news cycle is Texas backup quarterback Arch Manning deciding to opt out of EA Sports College Football 25 as he focuses on playing actual football.
Bowman Jr. responded to his decision to do so on social media, writing “another attention seeker” in a post.
Bowman had one of his better performances in the box score against the Longhorns this past season in the Sooners’ big win. He finished with 11 total tackles and a pass defended, though he didn’t come down with any takeaway.
The reason Bowman used “another” in his post claiming Manning is an attention seeker is because he made a post complaining to ESPN just before. ESPN posted about Texas softball claiming the No. 1 spot in one of the softball rankings, which Bowman responded to, backing up his school.
“everyone in the country knows who’s #1 yall just seeking attention ? smh,” Bowman posted.
Bowman’s ties to Oklahoma and the Sooners runs deep. Not only has he played for the football program for three seasons, but his fiancé, Jayda Coleman, is a star player for the Sooners’ softball program — which has won three straight National Championships.
