The world of college football is changing, and it’s changing fast. The deeply rooted rivalries are being put to rest in the current era of conference realignment, the very thing killing Bedlam between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

With this, new rivalries will make way. Of course, some old foes will remain. Texas is joining Oklahoma in joining the SEC, leaving the Big 12 behind. They’ll continue playing the Red River Rivalry in Dallas, TX, making the neutral site madness continue, just with a new logo slapped on the field.

What other new rivalries could come into fruition for Oklahoma, though? Social media is trying to stir the pot between Oklahoma and Missouri.

Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz comments on potential OU rivalry

Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz isn’t quite ready to pin Oklahoma as a rival of Missouri’s, and it makes total sense. If the series isn’t competitive, there’s no reason it should be labeled a rivalry. The two teams have met 96 times, most recently in 2011 with both as members of the Big 12. The Sooners lead the series 67-24-5.

“I think rivalries are born out of a lot of different things. It may end up being Oklahoma. It’s obviously for us Arkansas right now, and we’ll continue to see how it evolves based on scheduling,” Drinkwitz explained, via On3’s George Stoia.

The Sooners and the Tigers play on Nov. 9 as Oklahoma makes its way through its first SEC schedule as a new era begins for both the program and the conference. Mizzou is on a bit of a hot streak on the recruiting trail and bringing in high-level talents out of the transfer portal. They’re finding success in the new era of college athletes getting paid, and the matchup with Oklahoma could be more competitive because of it.

With Oklahoma losing Bedlam, there’s a handful of teams they could spark new rivalries with, but they’ll have the comfort of an annual matchup against the Longhorns as one of the best rivalry contests across the sport.
