A former Oklahoma quarterback won a big-time playoff game on Monday.

Baker Mayfield, who has had an interesting past few seasons in the NFL, led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 32-9 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He completed 22 of his 36 passes for 337 passing yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He played an incredible game to pull off the big upset.

Again, Mayfield had a rocky past couple of seasons in the NFL. He was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panther before eventually being released and signing with the Los Angeles Rams. With the Rams, the former Sooner reignited his NFL career.

With the Buccaneers, Mayfield was the successor to Tom Brady, who won the franchise a Super Bowl and is arguably the greatest NFL player of all time. He posted a 9-8 record with the team and an NFC South division win.

“It’s always fun to be counted out,” Mayfield said after the win. “Obviously, I’m pretty comfortable in it, but our team has completely embraced that.”

The Buccaneers’ story this season has been fun to follow and the former Sooner was the perfect guy to lead them through their first year in the post-Brady era.

“There’s something about whether it’s you’re an underdog or a road game, just having your backs against the wall and knowing it’s just your team versus everybody else when you’re counted out, and it’s always fun to be in that role,” Mayfield said.

Evidently, Mayfield wasn’t the only former Oklahoma standout to start under center in this game. On the other side, Jalen Hurts was leading the way for the Eagles. Of course, he ended up taking the loss just a season after making the Super Bowl with his squad.

For Oklahoma fans, there was no losing in the matchup as a former Sooner was going to end up winning the game and advance either way.
